Hi all.

I have a friend who does car detailing on the side. I was wondering if you guys were interested in a detail day. He provides detailing services as well as sells various detailing products. I don't really know the specifics, but if you guys are interested, I can try to persuade him to either hold a detail day here in Davis or back in the bay at a local shop.

I figure it can be a combination of:

Detailing Demonstration (where he shows you how to detail your car)
Him providing detailing services. (Odor removal, headlight restoration services, car wash/detailing, others)
Him selling you detailing products.
Etc.

Let me know what you guys think.

That sounds really interesting. I'm sure a lot of people would like learning how to properly detail their car and make it look nice. I know I would.

Aye. The tips he gave us at the last detail day were actually really helpful. Not to mention, he has used a lot of products, so he could even make you recommendations and what not.

The demo portion at the last event was free. Obviously, products and services were not. If I do get him up to Davis, I would want to have a least few people who would commit to purchases products and/or services.

All the pricing is on the website: www.detailaddict.com He mostly works out of the bay. I am just gauging interest for those who might be interested in purchasing his services. If there is interest, I'll try to talk to him in coming up during the fall or something to do various detailing services for us.

For you lazy peeps who are too lazy to click the link, he does:

Headlight Restoration (resurfaces headlights to get rid of some of that hazing)
Odor Removal (get various smells out of your interior so it smells brand new)
Detailing (interior and exterior detailing)
Carbon Fiber restoration (can clean up minor carbon fiber fading)

Maybe. One thing at a time. If there is no interest in something like this, then I won't talk my friend into coming up. I mean... it is a commute from the bay to Davis. If you guys are interested in having your car detailed, but can't wait for a detail day, my buddy does appointments at SpeedElement in Fremont, not to mention meeting up at various other locations around the bay.

I'd say it'd be better to make a potential list to gauge some interest. I'd like to have my car detailed properly.

And the commute to Davis from San Jose is quite nasty.

Yeah, I could do that. Though I'm not going back to the Bay for a while so I was hoping there'd be enough interest so you could get him up here. I'm actually interested in him demonstrating on how to detail a car.

Thanks for your efforts DarkOnion!

Anyone else interested? I know most of you guys detail your own cars, but maybe we can figure something out. Let's be reasonable, I think if we can get 5 guys that will purchase detailing services from my buddy, I think he might be interested in coming up.

Alrighty. I talked to my friend. He said that he is interested in my making a trip up if there is a relatively good interest in his products and services.

Like I said, he does offer a variety of services. Various stages of interior and/or exterior detailing. There are various packages, and you can customize your package. Wash, claybar, polish, wax, etc.

Don't forget the odor removal and headlight restoration service. For some of you guys with older cars, you might not notice it, but chances are your interior smells. I recommend the odor removal service. My car is 10 years old. My car did smell. I can vouch that odor removal service does work.

The headlight restoration service is pretty cool also. If you have a headlight that is starting to fog up because of the surface being damage, my friend can go through it and clean it up for you.

Here are some samples: http://www.detailaddict.com/portfolio.php?folder=HR/20080229/

Carbon Fiber Restoration - This is for you Oscar. Get your hood taken care of!!
http://www.detailaddict.com/portfolio.php?folder=CF/20070830/

^^^ That's the before and after of my hood. If you still have clearcoat on your hood, he can take care of the oxidation and fading.

What would a full detail cost (outside, basic interior care and engine detail)? I've been quoted well over $500 and I'm thinking it's a bit steep, since for the quality I'm looking for I could do it all myself in about a day.

(Then again the quote I got was from a shop that generally works on autos well into the 6-figure range)

Damn! I'm loving these prices. I may want to do a full detail next spring when the rains stop, but I think I'm up for a medium detail. My yellow baby needs some clay bar love!

Ohh, I wonder if I can get a discount if he uses my car as the demo for detail day Wink

We'll have to see how he wants to do the detail day. I think a demo portion is good, but does take up a lot of time. As for individual details, there is only one of him. I think he does do discounted rates for additional cars though. I can talk about it to him later. Anyone else interested? Either in purchasing detailing products or services?

For those of you who have older cars, I highly recommend the odor removal service.

We should all chip in and put the Yugo through that service. It still reeks of Soviet oppression.

So far, there is only Tercules and desynch interested. Anyone else? Let's be honest, no one is going to drive two hours each direction to only detail two cars.

Probably not. But if you say "DarkOnion sent me." ... actually, I dunno. He'll take good care of you, though. He does work at SpeedElement, so if you are in the Fremont area, don't have to travel that far.

Sorri, prefer to detail my car myself. Last thing I want is someone who's not familiar with the quirks of my car to fill the trunk with water and short my amp or thinks that it starts just like any other car with a start button and destory the clam on a curb.

That's why you watch him every step of the way. And I wouldn't let anyone start my car without my explicit permission.

But I don't pretend to be even remotely familiar with detail work besides wash, dry, wax and armor-all.

You certainly welcome to just come by and pick my buddy's brain. He has a lot of research on a variety of items, not mention various detailing methods. Like I said, he provides a variety of services outside of interior/exterior details. He also carries Adam's detailing products and always has a supply of various items.

You can check out his site: www.detailaddict.com , for his portfolio. He is a Subaru person himself and mainly works on Subaru's and Evo's.
